The origins of the Museum at the State Historical Society of Wisconsin (WIHV85-A216) can be traced back to the 1850s, with a division-type organizational structure dating to the early 1890s. In 1978 the Museum assumed the responsibilities of the former Sites and Markers Division (WIHV89-A323). Responsibility for the state's historic sites and outdoor museums were then transferred to the Division of Historic Sites (WIHV89-A322) in 1980. The Museum collects, preserves, and...
